3 insights from Clerkenwell Design Week

2 June 2026
As always, Clerkenwell Design Week was a brilliant opportunity to showcase new products and catch up with designers, furniture dealers, and new contacts. What do occupiers need in today’s workspaces? How are companies adapting to evolving working styles and team dynamics? And how do they attract their staff to the office? We hear trends in daily conversations, but nothing beats CDW for sharing what’s happening and gaining fresh insights.

Here are three things we learned at the show.

Flexibility is as important as ever

One of our strongest takeaways was that true flexibility in spaces and furniture is only becoming more important.

Tenants want more value from their footprint, and employees want more choice. As designers and providers, you’re constantly balancing these shifting needs: how people work, collaborate, and interact. That’s where furniture, especially workstations, needs to enable it.

But flexibility isn’t just about adding castors to desks.

When you also integrate power solutions and monitor arms, for example, you’re giving people the choice to work ergonomically as they move between private and collaborative environments, using laptops and monitors.

And coming soon, battery tech on our new agile workstations powers in-desk modules, freeing desks from cables and giving you more freedom in how you design mobile spaces.

Resimercial design must be practical

How do you design workspaces that are both homely and practical? The real-time challenge sparked some great conversations.

While sofas, soft textures and curtains make a space inviting, the reality is people spend the most time at workstations and table surfaces. So you’re now asked to create spaces where people can work at desks and collaboration tables more comfortably.

Our new modular height adjustable collaboration table got people talking. One of you told us your client is looking for height adjustable tables that feel like dining room tables, but serve as functional workstations that 30 people can work at. Day in, day out. The table you saw featured integrated power, lighting, and battery operation, with the option to add screens, monitors, and more, all in one piece of furniture that encourages interaction. Look out for more information on this soon!

After lots of conversations about social collaboration, it was clear there’s a balance to be struck: it’s nice to make people feel at home at work, but just as important to give them the functionality – power, space, and access – to work effectively from the same piece of furniture.

Desking layouts are becoming more nuanced

One of the most interesting topics? How you can create more nuanced desk layouts for larger workforces.

As you look to balance focus, privacy, and connection in the same environment, you’re moving away from endless rows of desks toward more thoughtful planning. Making planting more integral with workstations. Arranging clusters of workstations for different teams.

And of course, there’s also the challenge of maximising space.

Our new 3-person height adjustable workstation gives you creative ways to break the rows of back-to-backs while maintaining space efficiency. Coming soon, the solution integrates with our popular Duo and comfortably seats 3 people, with generous desktop space, all within a relatively small footprint.
Clerkenwell Design Week was a great time to gather inspiration and invaluable feedback, and to present our exclusive Collection 9 Preview, showcasing products launching this summer.
Keep an eye out for launches and get in touch with our team if you’d like to discuss your summer projects.
